Polymer solar cells have long been a hot topic in the research community. But only few attempts at making a commercial product have been made. On November 9th, infinityPV will launch a Kickstarter campaign for HeLi-on, a solar charger employing mass produced polymer solar cells.
The polymer solar cells used in HeLi-on are made without ITO and employs infinityPV’s 7% technology. The polymer solar cells are fully fabricated using large scale ambient roll-to-roll (R2R) printing and coating techniques at high speed. The technology does not include any toxic or scarce elements and is also environmentally friendly with a short energy pay back time.
By using the flexibility of polymer solar cells, HeLi-on will be the world’s most compact solar charger. Once encapsulated, the solar cells are less than one millimeter thick and can charge a smartphone in a few hours of direct sunlight. The HeLi-on charger also contains a lithium-ion battery that can be charged from the solar panel or any USB charger, making HeLi-on a perfect product to extend the life of any smartphone battery. Launching on Kickstarter November 9th, the Heli-on solar charger was developed by infinityPV, a Danish start-up founded in 2014. infinityPV holds several patents in the field of polymer solar cells and sells solar foils and solar panels as well as materials and characterization hardware.
